Brisa Hennessy wins her first WSL contest at Sunset Hawaii

Updated: Mar 1, 2022

We waited 12 years to watch the women compete again at Sunset and it did not disappoint!

The women and men battled it out in big, heavy conditions during the contest at the Hurley Pro and we saw some big names get knocked out of the running early on, as we saw the rookies on tour dominating both the men and women's divisions.

From day 1, Brisa Hennessy looked on form and hungry for the win, making it to the final to battle it out with Hawaii local Malia Manuel.

Brisa is now the proud owner of the yellow jersey and ranked #1 in the world after competing on the WSL world tour for the last 3 years.

"I have no words, I've dreamed about this moment but I never thought it was possible,"

"To all those people that supported me, I did it."

“It was an honour to surf against Malia. I feel like she has such an amazing connection out here and just all the people in my life, thank you. This is the reason I was able to do this today.”
